Mission & Purpose

The Cincinnati Jewish Teen Collective inspires and supports teens and the professionals who work with them by supporting and funding programs and experiences that assist and provide opportunities to learn more about one’s self, one’s identity, and a responsibility to the evolving world and communities in which we live.

The program was launched in 2016 to reverse the increasing trend of teens opting out of Jewish life in their high school years and to break through some of the traditional territorial boundaries that exist in Jewish communities. Always with a focus on teen empowerment and approaching Jewish youth engagement in new ways.

Over time, teens from across Cincinnati seeking meaningful Jewish engagement have had fewer options, particularly if they were unaffiliated with a specific temple or wanted to connect with friends outside their school, neighborhood or youth group. Although much has changed since the Teen Collective’s founding in 2016, the Teen Collective still seeks to fill this void by connecting Jewish teens to a broader base of their peers.

  • Collaborating across the community to broadcast existing high-quality opportunities for participation, volunteerism, learning and social events
  • Supporting and offering new programming rooted in Jewish values and learning
  • Expanding opportunities to participate in top-quality programming in Cincinnati and beyond

Then and now, teens of all abilities, between the ages of 13 and 18, who self-identify as Jewish are welcome. No previous membership at a synagogue, religious school education or other affiliation is required to be a part of the Teen Collective.

While creating its own new programming, the Teen Collective also supports the efforts of existing organizations that serve Jewish youth. We link and partner with other organizations to develop a more coordinated spectrum of opportunities and to increase the network of teens.

We see a future for Cincinnati where Jewish life is more exciting, accessible and rich with possibility. Through these experiences, the Teen Collective seeks to inspire teens to live active and vibrant Jewish lives, and to engage in ongoing Jewish learning, as they become adults.
